Golden Gate Rippers is a competitive field hockey club exclusive to the North Bay area.

Founded in the Spring of 2017, Golden Gate Rippers started as a competitive high school girls lacrosse club. In 2019, we added Rippers field hockey, to become the first and only field hockey club team in the North Bay for middle school and high school field hockey. At Rippers, our goal has always been to create a club where players from schools across Marin come together to grow as athletes and teammates, build confidence, and experience the pure joy of playing field hockey or lacrosse. At this time, we've taken a step back from lacrosse to focus on purely on field hockey and growing the game in Marin.
We’re especially excited to be sharing the love of field hockey in Marin by offering more opportunities to play than ever before. What began as a small weekend program for 6th–12th graders has grown every year. We’ve listened closely as families asked for options for younger players and more weekday practices. By expanding our program to kindergarteners through 5th graders this fall—and now adding weekday practices this spring—Rippers rivals top Bay Area hockey clubs in both opportunity and hours of play.
This growth allows us to do what matters most: focus on the long-term development of each individual athlete. And we're seeing that vision come to life—watching our U8 girls light up the field and dominate tournaments—has been incredibly energizing and inspires us as coaches to keep nurturing our athletes at every stage of their journey.
Our players love to compete and share a passion for field hockey. We are able to strike the balance between working hard and having fun. In fact, we believe that working hard IS fun!
We hire the best coaches available. Our coaches are not only great coaches, but they are great role models. They have played women’s field hockey at the highest levels and love the sport. They are true stewards of the game. During practices, players will get specific feedback and a lot of touches and repetitions. We believe in shaping girls so that they can be their best on and off the field. We believe that greatness comes from coaching each girl to their own potential so that they can see and believe how far they can really go.
Our structure differs from other clubs. As a proponent of multi-sport athletes, we build our teams to support multi-sport athletes. Our programs are offered seasonally. Players have the option to commit to all seasons or select which ones work best for them and their family. Additionally, we do not host tryouts but use practice to evaluate players for team placement. Our teams are tiered based on ability, level and graduation year. Our teams are not grade-pure. We hand-pick competitive tournaments that are convenient for the calendar and a short hop away. Tournaments are a great way to showcase the hard work and improvement that happens during practices.
If you are interested in pursuing a collegiate field hockey career, we offer support in college recruiting. The process can be daunting and overwhelming. As a former Division I player and coach, Coach MB and Coach Aline offer advice and guidance to players as needed. Attending camps hosted by college coaches is one of the best ways to jumpstart and realize the goal of playing at the collegiate level. Camps provide real instruction and feedback, a high-level of competition, and a first-hand experience of what a college campus feels like. College coaches host camps throughout the summer and winter break. The Rippers seasons are structured to allow our players to attend college camps.
Join us, spread the word, and be part of Marin’s future as a powerhouse field hockey region fueled by passion, joy, and a love of the game.
